Many of our customers have used their yurts as an opportunity to create a unique personal space.  Do you want a comfortable and affordable home or guest house?  Would you like that perfect office or studio space?  Do you want your shelter created out of sustainably harvested lumber and environmentally friendly materials? If so, a Shelter Designs yurt is ideal for you.

All yurt handcrafted packages include:

• Wall lattice with finish height of 7’ 2”
• Tension cable of high quality steel
• Door and door frame
• Hand-peeled poles or dimensional roof rafters
• Compression ring of laminated Douglas fir
• Outer wall and roof covering of waterproof, UV-resistant material with door awning
• 2 vinyl windows (36”x 48”) with screen and storm covers (3 windows on 24’, 27’, and 30’ diameters)
• Acrylic bubble. A fixed clear dome top specifically designed to fit over the compression ring.

Shelter Designs yurt packages

We offer two yurt models. Our Basic Yurt is handmade using store-bought lumber for the frame, including the roof rafters. The Eco-Yurt is made using sustainably-harvested local lumber for the frame and hand-peeled lodgepole pine roof rafters. Please see our Eco-yurt page for a complete explanation.

Hands on living experience has taught us the necessity of two features we have made standard in our shelters that other companies call “extras”. One is a door awning. An unprotected door is a door that is vulnerable to the elements, causing complications from swelling and water/ice damage. The other is standard 7’ 2” wall height. This feature allows you to have a standard 80” tall door, better window placement, and makes a roomier structure.
