Providing sustainable, affordable housing since 2005

Our story starts in 1999 when founding partners Hays Daniel, Vince Godby, and Brian Lawson met in Southern Montana. The next year, common interests and land led them and their families to Northwest Montana to live a simple homestead lifestyle. Born out of this desire to live simply with the land came the historic first yurt, or “furt”, in 2000. Over the years many more yurts were built as word spread of the beautiful, simple and affordable shelters being built in the North country.

In 2005 Shelter Designs was founded on the principles of quality, beauty, affordability, and most importantly, sustainability. We are proud to be expanding our vision of sustainable, harmonious living as demand for our yurts grows.
